Introduction

SavvyScan ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to transparency about how we collect and use your information. This Privacy Policy explains our data practices when you use our SavvyScan mobile application (the "App") on iOS devices.

Company Information: SavvyScan is operated by a Brazilian Micro Empresa (ME) under the Simples Nacional tax regime. While we are based in Brazil, the App is available exclusively to users in the United States, and we comply with all applicable U.S. privacy laws and regulations, including COPPA, CCPA/CPRA, and other state privacy laws.

Geographic Restriction: This App is only available in the United States. This Privacy Policy applies to U.S. users only.

Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with our practices, please do not use the App.

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. Changes will be effective when posted in the App and on our website. Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us and information automatically collected when you use the App.

1.1 Information You Provide to Us

Account Information: When you create an account with SavvyScan, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Password (encrypted and securely stored)
  • Display name (optional)

User-Generated Content:

  • Products you scan (such as barcodes or UPC codes)
  • Store prices you manually enter
  • Products you add to your dashboard for tracking
  • Feedback and support communications

Subscription Information:

  • Subscription status (Free or Premium)
  • Information related to your in-app purchases and subscription entitlements as managed by Apple and our subscription provider (such as RevenueCat)
  • Note: Payment information is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your credit card information, billing address, or other payment details.

1.2 Information Automatically Collected

Usage Data: We collect analytics information about how you interact with the App, including:

  • Features used and scan frequency
  • Products scanned and price comparisons performed
  • Time spent in the App and navigation patterns
  • Device type, operating system version, and app version
  • Crash reports, error logs, and IP address

Device and Identifier Information: We collect technical information such as device model, iOS version, screen size and resolution, and unique device identifiers. These identifiers may be used for:

  • Analytics and performance monitoring
  • Crash reporting
  • Managing subscriptions and entitlements (for example, via RevenueCat)
  • Showing and measuring in-app advertisements, including rewarded video ads (for example, via Google AdMob), in accordance with your device settings and permissions

Advertising Identifiers: If you allow tracking on your device, we may access your device's advertising identifier (such as Apple's IDFA) to support advertising and attribution, as permitted by Apple's policies and your privacy settings.

Cookies and Similar Technologies: While our native mobile app does not use traditional browser cookies, we may use similar technologies including:

  • Local storage and cache on your device
  • SDKs (Software Development Kits) from third-party services
  • Session identifiers for authentication
  • Analytics beacons and pixels

1.3 Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not access your camera roll or photo library
  • We do not access your contacts
  • We do not collect biometric data
  • We do not collect precise GPS location data
  • We do not knowingly collect information about children (see Section 8)

Sensitive Personal Information: We do not collect or process sensitive personal information such as Social Security numbers, financial account information, precise geolocation, health data, or information about race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or political views.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and improve the App functionality
  • Enable barcode scanning and product recognition
  • Fetch product details, prices, and affiliate links from third-party product data providers (such as Rainforest API, the Amazon Product Advertising API, and similar services), so we can show you product information and potential savings
  • Display Amazon and other retailer price comparisons
  • Maintain your dashboard tracked items (limited by plan)
  • Verify and manage your Premium subscription status (for example, via RevenueCat)
  • Provide customer support
  • Understand how users interact with the App and identify bugs
  • Show and measure in-app advertisements, including rewarded video ads (for example, via Google AdMob), in accordance with your device and App Store privacy settings
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use

3. How We Share Your Information

Important Notice: We may share aggregated or de-identified usage data and analytics with third parties. This information does not identify you personally.

We do not sell or share your personal information as "sale" or "sharing" are defined under applicable U.S. privacy laws. If this ever changes in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any required "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" options.

We may share your information in the following circumstances:

Service Providers: We work with trusted third-party companies to help operate the App, including:

  • Cloud hosting and database providers (such as Supabase) that store your account data, scans, and tracked items
  • Subscription and entitlement management providers (such as RevenueCat) that help us verify and manage your Premium status
  • Product data and affiliate service providers (such as Rainforest API, the Amazon Product Advertising API, Amazon Associates tools, and similar services) that supply product details, prices, and affiliate links. In general, we send these providers product identifiers (such as barcodes or Amazon ASINs) and do not share your email address, password, or other core account details with them.
  • Analytics and crash reporting providers that help us understand performance and improve the App
  • Advertising providers (such as Google AdMob) that display in-app advertisements, including rewarded video ads, and measure ad performance; some offers may show shipping-inclusive or Prime pricing depending on availability
  • Email and communication service providers that help us send account-related messages and respond to support requests

These service providers have access only to the information necessary to perform their functions and are contractually obligated to protect your data.

Business Partners: We may share anonymized, aggregated data about product scans, price comparisons, and shopping patterns with business partners and third parties. This data cannot reasonably be used to identify you personally.

Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, such as in response to a court order, subpoena, or legal process, to comply with government requests, to enforce our Terms of Use, or to protect rights, property, or safety.

Business Transfers: If SavvyScan is acquired by or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any material change in ownership or use of your personal information.

4. Data Retention

We retain your information as follows:

  • Account data is retained until you delete your account
  • Free users: Recent scans (with limited functionality) are retained while your account remains active
  • Premium users: Dashboard tracked items (up to your plan limit) are retained while your account remains active
  • Analytics and usage data may be retained for a longer period in aggregated or de-identified form

When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal data associated with your account, except for information we are required or permitted to retain for legal, security, or business purposes (for example, fraud prevention, accounting records, or backup).

You can request deletion of your account at any time through the App (Settings > Account > Delete Account) or by contacting us at support@savvyscan.app.

5. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL)
  • Encryption of sensitive data at rest
  • Secure authentication mechanisms
  • Regular security assessments
  • Limited employee access to personal data

However, no method of electronic storage or internet transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Responsibilities: You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password and for all activities that occur under your account. Please notify us immediately at support@savvyscan.app if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account.

6. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, which may include:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and personal data, subject to certain legal or legitimate business exceptions
  • Portability: Request a copy of your data in a machine-readable format, where technically feasible
  • Opt-Out: Opt out of certain analytics or advertising features by adjusting your device privacy settings (for example, limiting ad tracking) or by contacting us

How to Opt Out of Analytics and Advertising:

  • iOS Tracking: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking and toggle off "Allow Apps to Request to Track"
  • Advertising: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Apple Advertising and toggle on "Limit Ad Tracking"
  • In-App: Use any opt-out controls provided in the App's Settings menu

7. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services for certain functionality, including:

  • Apple App Store for subscription processing and payment (governed by Apple's Privacy Policy)
  • Supabase for cloud hosting, authentication, and database storage of your account and App data
  • RevenueCat for subscription and entitlement management, including tracking whether your account is Free or Premium
  • Rainforest API and other product data providers for product information, images, and pricing
  • Amazon Product Advertising API and Amazon Associates tools for product information, pricing, and generating affiliate links
  • Google AdMob for displaying in-app advertisements and rewarded video ads, and measuring ad performance
  • Analytics and crash reporting providers for app performance and usage tracking

The App may contain links to third-party websites including Amazon and other retailers. When you click a link to Amazon or another retailer, that third party may collect information about you in accordance with its own privacy policy. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.

Affiliate Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases made through links in the App. These affiliate links do not change the price you pay, but they may allow us to receive a commission from Amazon.

Do Not Track: We do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" signals from web browsers, as the App is primarily a mobile application. However, you can control tracking through your device's privacy settings (Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking on iOS).

8. Children's Privacy

SavvyScan is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible.

9. State Privacy Rights

Residents of certain U.S. states have specific privacy rights under state law:

California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you may have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA:

  • Right to Know: Request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the business or commercial purposes for collection, and the categories of third parties to whom we disclose personal information.
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions (for example, where we must retain information to comply with legal obligations).
  • Right to Correct: Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

Sale or Sharing of Personal Information: We do not currently sell or share your personal information as "sale" or "sharing" are defined under the CCPA. If this ever changes, we will update this Privacy Policy and provide any required "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" mechanisms.

To exercise CCPA-related rights, email support@savvyscan.app with "CCPA Request" in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and Other States

If you are a resident of Virginia (VCDPA), Colorado (CPA), Connecticut (CTDPA), Utah (UCPA), or other states with comprehensive privacy laws, you may have rights similar to those described above for California residents, including:

  • Right to access your personal information
  • Right to correct inaccuracies in your personal information
  • Right to delete your personal information
  • Right to obtain a copy of your personal information in a portable format
  • Right to opt out of the processing of personal information for purposes of targeted advertising, the sale of personal information, or profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects

To exercise these rights, contact us at support@savvyscan.app with your state name in the subject line (for example, "Virginia Privacy Request"). We will respond to your request in accordance with applicable law and may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

10. International Data Transfers

Company Location: SavvyScan is operated by a Brazilian Micro Empresa (ME). Although the App is exclusively available to U.S. users, data is transferred internationally as described below.

Data Transfer and Storage: As a U.S. user, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in:

  • The United States, where most of our service providers and infrastructure are located (including Supabase for cloud hosting, RevenueCat for subscriptions, and other U.S.-based service providers)
  • Brazil, where our company is based and where certain business operations may occur
  • Other countries where our third-party service providers operate their infrastructure

By using the App, you acknowledge and consent to the transfer of your information between the United States and Brazil, and to other countries where our service providers are located.

Data Protection Measures: We implement appropriate safeguards to protect your personal information during international transfers, including:

  • Contractual protections with service providers requiring them to protect your data
  • Encryption of data in transit and at rest
  • Compliance with U.S. data protection laws (CCPA, COPPA, and state privacy laws)
  • Regular security assessments of our data practices

Primary Storage: Most of your data is stored on U.S.-based servers (Supabase and other U.S. providers). Our Brazilian company location does not affect the security or availability of your data, as all critical infrastructure is hosted in the United States.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the App and on our website, updating the "Last Updated" date, and, where appropriate, sending an email notification (if you have an account).

Your continued use of the App after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

  • Steps we are taking to address the breach
  • Recommended actions you can take to protect yourself

We will provide notification via email to the address associated with your account and/or through a prominent notice in the App.

14. Email Communications

We may send you emails related to your account, transactions, and service updates. If you opt in to marketing communications, we may also send promotional emails about new features, special offers, or other information we think you may find interesting.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time by clicking the "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of the email or by contacting us at support@savvyscan.app. Please note that you cannot opt out of transactional emails related to your account or subscription.

15. Automated Decision-Making

We may use automated systems and algorithms to provide product recommendations, price comparisons, and personalized shopping suggestions. These systems analyze your scan history and preferences to improve your experience. You can request human review of any automated decision by contacting us at support@savvyscan.app.
